SUMMARY:Author Visit: Kirsty Applebaum
DESCRIPTION:We had a fantastic time with our visiting author Kirsty Applebaum on Monday. Year 6 took part in creative writing workshops: developing characters\, settings\, and story plots. Their ideas were incredible and Kirsty was very impressed with the creativity and detail.\nAll our junior children were able to listen to Kirsty during our afternoon assembly. She shared some of her novels with them and then we created a Key Stage 2 story with ideas suggested by the children. We ended up with a footballer who was sent to the jungle to fight in a war and who was being attacked by stray spiky footballs!\nAt the end of the day\, Kirsty signed books for our children and chatted to them about their reading.\nThese events really do help to inspire a love of reading which in turns leads to progress being made. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nOn Monday\, April 20th\, celebrated writer\, Kirsty Applebaum\, will be a special guest of Warden Hill Primary School. \nKirsty Applebaum is a uniquely skilled writer\, curious and ‘dextrous’ in her approach and subject matter. Kirsty\nApplebaum’s books have been included within Book Trust’s Great Books’ Guides. SUMMARY:World Book Day
DESCRIPTION:We are looking forward to celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 5th March\, with a range of exciting reading activities for the children. \n					\n									World Book Day\n					 \nCompetition – Reading Your Way \nChildren are invited to take part in our at-home reading competition by sending in a photo of themselves reading in an unusual place. Photos should be emailed to the school admin team by Monday 2 March. Please include your child’s name and class in the email.The competition will be judged by our Reading Ambassadors\, who will announce the winner during our World Book Day assembly. The winner will receive a book-related prize. \nBook Swap \nWe will be holding a book swap after school on Thursday 5th March. If your child has a book they would like to donate\, please bring it into school on Monday 2nd March. We kindly ask that donated books are in good\, reusable condition.The book swap will take place on the playground (weather permitting). All children are welcome to choose a book at the end of the day. \nWorld Book Day Tokens \nWorld Book Day tokens will be given to children on Friday 13th February. Books will be available to purchase using the tokens from 12th February. \n					\n									£1 Books\n					 \nSharing a Book \nAs part of our World Book Day activities on Thursday 5th March\, please could all children bring in one of their favourite books that they would like to read\, share and discuss with another child. \nThank you for supporting our World Book Day celebrations and helping us to promote a love of reading.
