PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT CURRICULUM
The vast majority of parents want the same thing for their child in life– for them to be happy. It’s quite a simple word, but actually, it is a word which is the key to unlock a host of other words when we talk about educating children: confidence, inquisitiveness and success, to name a few.
At Warden Hill our children are extremely happy. They learn brilliantly from superb teaching and they find success at whatever level – nothing is capped. Interwoven with teaching our bespoke subject curriculums, is also the teaching of life skills: values, morals, empathy, how to stay safe, kindness, what it is to be different, what it is to be the same, what success is, what failure is, what perseverance is, what resilience is, what friendship is, what it is to be them. This, in essence, is what we call our Personal Development curriculum. The curriculum is made up of the following areas:
- Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education
- Relationships and Sex Education
- Citizenship
- Spiritual, Moral, and Cultural Development
- British Values
- Character Development
- Wider Opportunities
Personal development is such a strength of our school and is exceptional. We provide support for pupils’ personal development through our in-class and wider curriculum and our Year 6 pupils leave us knowledgeable, well-rounded, resilient and confident children.
Our curriculum ensures our children have varied experiences, which equip them with an excellent understanding of the Fundamental British Values with which to grow up in modern Britain. Our ultimate goal is to develop our children to be aware of and to respect, the beliefs and opinions of others and to be tolerant and respectful of our school and wider community. We also aim to give them skills to succeed in life by supporting their well-being and mental health.
We set great store in exploring and taking learning further afield. Our Forest school programme of outdoor learning is excellent and widely recognised as so, but we also organise many trips outside of school. They are our way of enriching our pupils’ learning opportunities, giving even more depth and value to the experiences they receive in their classrooms. Such visits help to maintain the motivation to learn and support the children in retaining even more knowledge. Past trips have included Bristol Zoo, We The Curious, Bisley, Bishops Wood, The Forest of Dean, Cheltenham High Street, Crickley Hill, Pittville Park and Pump Rooms, Avebury Stones, Clevedon Pier and a journey on the Winchcombe steam train as evacuees!
We are in a very privileged position to be part of this learning process – a process which is firmly embedded in our school values – Belong – Explore – Succeed. They underpin all we do at our School and it creates a very special place. Through their time with us, all our pupils will have had access to a wide range of diverse experiences which will ensure they are fully prepared for their next educational journey to secondary school.
When they leave us, they do so with a smile, with confidence, with resilience and an understanding and acquisition of the skills and personal qualities that will support them now and into adult life.
We develop healthy, happy, friendly and independent children.

We aim for everyone to identify with our community, and have a sense of belonging, where equity of opportunities allows all children to thrive and find success.

We promote democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. It is essential that we ensure all of these are promoted and respected, to enable our children to grow and develop their own personal values, showing tolerance of others’.
