RAIN GARDEN COMPETITION
Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust are working with The Co-op in Salisbury Avenue to make a rain garden. Read about the project here.
The Eco Warriors invite all children to take part in an exciting competition, by decorating letters for the Rain Garden sign.
Get creative and show your artistic flair by creating designs based upon water, nature, rivers, sea, aquatic life or urban wildlife. The designs need to be coloured with either pencil crayons or felt tips.
The final date for entries is Friday 8th November.
Please ensure you write your name and class on your entry and give your entry to your teacher.
The winning entries will be given to Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust to be incorporated in their signs, which will be installed outside The Co-op.

PRELOVED UNIFORM
We have a fair amount of second-hand uniform in a good condition available in the office. If you would like some, please come to the office before pick up in the afternoon.
REPORTING ABSENCE
If your child is off school, you need to report their absence every morning.
Our preferred method of communication is Xpressions. But you can also email admin@wardenhill.gloucs.sch.uk or telephone 01242 523827 and leave a message on the answerphone.
School Streets Scheme
School Streets has been in place along Durham Close since November 2020. Durham Close has been made a pedestrian and cycle-friendly environment, prohibiting motor vehicles during morning drop off and afternoon collection times: 8:15am – 9:00am and 2:45pm – 3:30pm Monday to Friday.
We ask parents to park on nearby roads and be considerate to our neighbours, not to park on driveways or block access.
Permits are issued for staff and blue badge-holders. Permits can also be issued to parents in exceptional circumstances. This allows access to the school carpark. Please do not park on Durham Close during School Streets times even you have the permit.
PTA – Fireworks – Important Information Please Read
Tickets are still available to this amazing event on Tuesday 5th November, so why not start the new half term off with a bang and get your tickets by clicking the following link bit.ly/WHPTAFireworks.
For those of you who are attending our Fireworks display, please read all the following important information about the event.
The Gates will open at 5.30pm and the display will start at 6.30pm and as well as the amazing fireworks display, there will also be some tasty food vendors (Pizza, Hot Dogs, Loaded Nachos as well as hot desserts like donuts and brownies), a bar with both hot (Mulled Wine, Hot Chocolate & Tea and Coffee) and cold drinks (alcoholic and soft drinks) and of course some colourful UV Glow items for sale. We are trying to go cashless, but if you do bring cash, please ensure that you have change. This year there is an enlarged viewing area to enable the best experience for all. All the fireworks will be aerial ones, so you will be able to see from wherever you stand.
Safety Information
Please take time to look at the Site Plan which shows where everything will be located including; the First Aid area and Toilets, the entry and exit routes (route 2 is for exit & emergencies only), and what to do in the highly unlikely event of an emergency. If there is an emergency and we need to clear the site as quickly and calmly as possible a bell will ring continuously and all spectors will be directed by the Marshalls to leave by the exit route closest to them. This will be either via the side entrance you came in, or as per the usual end of day routine, both of which are marked on the site plan. The entrance this year will be via the usual morning drop off path, rather than through the car park to ensure safety of all spectators.
Durham Close and the School Car Park will be out of bounds (except for residents and disabled Blue Badge holders) between the hours of 5 – 7.30pm to ensure the safety of the 750 spectators and volunteers working at the event. Feel free to park in the surrounding streets, but please be respectful of our neighbours, and we encourage people to walk where possible. If you are volunteering, a member of staff or disabled and need to park in the car park, then you will need to be on site by 5pm, and will not be able to move your car until 7.30pm. Please don’t park in the No Parking areas shown on the Site Plan or where the food vendors will be sited.
The school will be lit, but we do recommend that someone in your group brings a torch.
All children must be supervised at all times for the safety and enjoyment of all. The Infant Green and ALL play equipment is strictly off limits. If any accidents occur in these areas or on the equipment it is the responsibility of the parent/responsible adult. No responsibility will be taken by the school or PTA.
When the display has finished we kindly ask that you leave the site quietly and be considerate of our neighbours.

Smartphone Free Childhood
Many of you will have already heard of the Smartphone Free Childhood movement. It has gained a lot of media attention recently and sparked a national conversation around the effects of smartphone usage on our young people. It is a parent led initiative that seeks to bring communities together and empower them to make positive change on a local level. Here at Warden Hill, we would like to do the same!
We invite parents to fill out this small, anonymous survey so we can gain a clearer picture of opinions and experiences at the school around smartphones. Everyone and all opinions welcome of course! We will report back with the results. https://forms.gle/nAUMpM5e9LGJ9eyv5

TURN ON THE SUBTITLES
Numerous studies worldwide have demonstrated the remarkable effectiveness of turning on subtitles while children watch television.
The simple act of incorporating subtitles can double the likelihood of a child becoming proficient in reading. This compelling evidence underscores the potential of a quick and free tip that can seamlessly turn TV time into reading time.
