Year 2: Great Fire of London

On Friday 6th February, Year 2 re-enacted the Great Fire of London. They all brought in a cardboard box and transformed it into their very own Tudor house, learning how homes in 1666 were built from timber and had overhanging upper floors, which made them highly flammable and helped the fire spread quickly.

Thankfully, the rain held off long enough for us to go outside and watch the houses burn, bringing the history to life. The children were excited, curious and full of awe as they saw the flames, and it sparked lots of thoughtful questions and discussions.

Afterwards, they wrote wonderful recounts about their experience, describing what they saw and how they felt during the re-enactment.
