Dear Parents,
We’ve had a great week at Warden Hill and it has been wonderful to see our children settling back into the rhythm of school life and establishing their new routines. There has been a real sense of excitement and positivity across the school and this was captured during drop offs with parents popping in to see where there child sits in their classrooms and meet the teaching teams for this academic year.
We began the week with a whole-school assembly focused on what it means to Belong, one of our core school values. Together, we explored how feeling that we belong to our classes, houses and wider school community helps us feel confident, included and ready to learn.
It has been a particularly busy and exciting week for our Reception children and families. We held our Reception Curriculum Evening on Tuesday, the children enjoyed their first full day on Thursday, and this morning Mr Antonious and I had the pleasure of meeting with some parents over coffee.
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us. These informal conversations provided a valuable opportunity to hear why families chose Warden Hill, how they found the transition process and whether there were any areas where we could further improve our provision.
I am delighted to share that the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Parents spoke highly of the communication received throughout the transition process, with home visits receiving particular praise. Families appreciated the opportunity for one-to-one time with staff in their child’s home environment and felt this helped both children and parents feel confident and supported as they started school.
At the start of each academic year, it is important to revisit some of the key elements that make our school such a successful and nurturing place to learn.
We have very high expectations of all children, both in and out of the classroom. As a result, our pupils are consistently well behaved during lessons and at less structured times throughout the day. Our Positive Behaviour Policy supports this work, alongside our shared expectations known as The Warden Hill Way:
- We keep everyone safe.
- We are respectful.
- We try our best.
These simple yet powerful principles guide the way we treat one another and underpin the British Values that help our children develop into responsible, respectful and positive citizens of the future.
When negative behaviour does occur, we address it promptly and carefully. We also believe that working in partnership with parents is essential and we will always communicate with families when behaviour issues need to be discussed. Time is taken to investigate incidents thoroughly, often considering multiple perspectives, so that we gain an accurate and balanced understanding of what has happened.
Please be reassured that we take this responsibility very seriously. Our aim is always to ensure that behaviours are not repeated and that children learn from any mistakes they may make, recognising how their actions can affect both themselves and others. Curriculum Newsletters for the Autumn Term have now been uploaded to the relevant year group pages on our website. These are important documents that outline what your child will be learning over the coming weeks, so please take a few moments to read them and discuss the topics with your child.
We are always looking for parent and grandparent volunteers to support us in providing wider opportunities and enriching experiences for our children. If you are interested in helping in school, a DBS check will be required.
Please speak to Mrs Young in the school office, who will be happy to help you begin the process.
