Year 3 marks an exciting and important stage as children begin Key Stage 2. At Warden Hill, we prioritise a smooth, supportive transition so every child feels secure, confident and ready to thrive. Our nurturing approach reflects our vision of unlocking each child’s potential, encouraging a growth mindset and a positive “can do” attitude.
Our curriculum is rich, engaging and designed to spark curiosity. In history, children explore the Stone Age to Iron Age, delve into Ancient Egypt and investigate Ancient Greece, enhanced by an immersive in school experience day. Their learning is brought to life through a visit to Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, where they handle artefacts and explore exhibitions linked to our units on Ancient Egypt and Rocks and Soils. We also make the most of local opportunities, meeting authors at the Literature Festival and joining workshops during the Science Festival.
In geography, pupils build a strong understanding of Earth’s natural processes by studying earthquakes and volcanoes. They learn how tectonic plates shape our planet, explore real world case studies and develop map reading and atlas skills that deepen their curiosity about the world.
Creativity and problem solving flourish through art and design projects – from clay cartouches to cooked from scratch pizzas to money boxes designed using CAD. Children learn to express ideas, evaluate their work and take pride in what they create.
Across the curriculum, we maintain a strong focus on reading, writing, maths and science, while ensuring a broad, balanced experience in subjects such as art, DT, music, history, geography, French, PE and PSHE.
Our school values – Belong, Explore, Succeed – sit at the heart of Year 3. Children feel part of a supportive community, are encouraged to explore widely and celebrate their achievements as they grow. Warm relationships, inspiring teaching and high expectations ensure every child is empowered to continue unlocking their unique potential.
