We had a fantastic time with our visiting author Kirsty Applebaum on Monday. Year 6 took part in creative writing workshops: developing characters, settings, and story plots. Their ideas were incredible and Kirsty was very impressed with the creativity and detail.
All our junior children were able to listen to Kirsty during our afternoon assembly. She shared some of her novels with them and then we created a Key Stage 2 story with ideas suggested by the children. We ended up with a footballer who was sent to the jungle to fight in a war and who was being attacked by stray spiky footballs!
At the end of the day, Kirsty signed books for our children and chatted to them about their reading.
These events really do help to inspire a love of reading which in turns leads to progress being made.

On Monday, April 20th, celebrated writer, Kirsty Applebaum, will be a special guest of Warden Hill Primary School.
