School Council’s Interview with Dawn Patrol Cyclists

When the My Name’5 Doddie cyclists visited our school on their impressive 800 mile journey, we asked them a few questions. When asked how they were feeling two days into the journey, the cyclists shared a mix of emotions, describing themselves as proud, sore and supported by strong teamwork and encouragement from others. Opinions differed on whether the challenge was harder than expected; some felt well-prepared due to their training, while others admitted they had underestimated the difficulty, particularly the hilly terrain, tough weather conditions and growing fatigue in their legs.

When reflecting on their achievements, every participant expressed pride—not only in themselves, but also in their team. They highlighted the significant accomplishment of raising over £20,000 at the time and described the experience as both tough and rewarding, pushing them beyond their limits.

Looking ahead to the end of the challenge, the cyclists said they were most looking forward to simple comforts such as having a long bath, resting, hugging loved ones, sleeping and enjoying some rugby. All of the cyclists said they were supporting Scotland in the Six Nations. Finally, they offered advice for future cyclists: eat and drink plenty, prepare well, but stay flexible and train hard while still enjoying the experience and most importantly, never give up.

We are so proud of what they achieved. Thank you to all of our families at Warden Hill that donated bedding for the cyclists and money to support an important cause – the My Name’5 Doddie charity. Well done Warden Hill for also cycling 958 miles collectively. If you haven’t donated yet, please find the link on our website.
