Head’s Update

I can’t quite believe the end of term is here! It has been a brilliant final week (apart from Wednesday’s unexpected closure). Thank you all for your understanding and flexibility on the day.

As I write this, our Inter-House Netball event is in full swing. I absolutely love our house competitions—not only do they strengthen the sense of belonging within our school houses, but they also unite our children with a shared purpose. It really is the taking part that matters: giving things a go, improving skills, representing your team, and being part of something bigger within our school.

On Monday, we held our Full Governing Body meeting, and it was a pleasure to welcome Maddie Mifflin to our Board as our newest Parent Governor. A wide range of items were discussed, including the headlines from the Government’s recent White Paper and the SEND reforms. There are significant changes ahead for all schools; as I said during the meeting, optimism and collaboration will be key as we navigate the coming years and their new demands.

Mr Antonious led our Cuppa and Connect session on Thursday morning, focusing on Building Positive Habits and Emotional Resilience for Children and Families. The book Atomic Habits was referenced as part of the discussion, highlighting the impact that small, consistent changes can make. We will be exploring alternative timings for future sessions to make them accessible to as many families as possible.

After school on Thursday, our Wildlife Quiz Team represented us brilliantly in their match against Richard Pates. Although we didn’t come away with the win (just 3 points in it!), the children should be so proud of their teamwork, knowledge, and enthusiasm. One pupil was even worried they wouldn’t be meeting at lunchtimes anymore—Mrs Catchpole quickly reassured him that their wildlife chats and learning sessions will most certainly continue!

A huge thank you to our PTA for providing Easter eggs for every child for our annual Easter Egg Hunt. The squeals, shouts, and smiles as the children discovered their eggs have been such a joy. Speaking of the PTA, the next meeting is on Tuesday 14th April at 7:30pm here at school. It would be wonderful to see some new faces—do come along to find out what it’s all about.

As you know, we are incredibly passionate about reading at Warden Hill. Our Reading Leads, Mrs Jones and Mrs Sperduti, along with Bronnie and Bob from Bookwagon, have secured our next author visit for Years 5 and 6. Bookwagon is offering our community the opportunity to purchase Kirsty Applebaum’s middle-grade titles at a discounted rate.

To order, simply head to Bookwagon and apply the code MAGGIE at checkout to receive 25% off and free delivery. Please include your child’s name, class, and the school address in the delivery section. Discounted orders close at midnight on Monday 13th April, and books will not be available to purchase on the day—so don’t miss out!

And finally, I’d like to wish you all a wonderful Easter holiday, wherever your plans take you. I’m heading up to St Andrews for some precious time with my whole family. Murphy is especially excited—he’ll be meeting up with his mum and sister before we head north for some glorious beach walks! You can follow his adventures on Instagram at @murphytheschooldog.

Take care everyone, and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday 13th April.
Warm regards,
