Dear Parents and Carers,
I am delighted to share that our school will once again be taking part in the Big Walk and Wheel.
Following our support of the Cycle 800 Challenge on Wednesday 11th March, we are pleased to continue promoting active travel and shining a spotlight on the Doddie Weir Campaign.
The Big Walk and Wheel is a national competition that raises awareness of the many benefits of active travel—something we are keen to continue encouraging within our school community.
This year’s Big Walk and Wheel will run from Monday 16th March to Friday 27th March 2026. During these two weeks, we will be encouraging all pupils to travel to school in an active way each day—whether that’s walking, cycling, scooting, or taking part in ‘park and stride’.
We fully appreciate that mornings can be busy, but even small changes—such as parking a little further away from school and walking the final part of the journey—can make a big difference.
Active travel offers many benefits, including:
- Improved wellbeing through daily physical activity
- Reduced traffic and fewer car journeys, supporting our environment
- Better readiness for learning, as movement helps prepare children’s brains for the school day
- Cleaner air around school, with fewer cars stopping directly at the gates
There are countless positives, and we hope the weather will be kind enough for everyone to fully enjoy and embrace active travel throughout the fortnight.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We look forward to seeing our pupils getting active and continuing to build healthy habits together.
Kind regards,
James Antonious
