Headteacher’s Update

Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s been another busy week and, despite the awful weather, the children and their attitudes have truly shone through.

I’ve seen Year 4 in the hall as I’ve walked past, practising for their upcoming assembly. While the content remains top secret (even to me!), the joy and excitement on their faces already promises something very special.

I also spent time with Year 4 during Forest School at lunchtime this week, where Murphy and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the children build dens, play outdoor instruments, and enthusiastically dig a few holes! Teamwork was particularly evident, especially as the children worked together to move large logs to form the structures of their dens.

Earlier in the week, I was out on Monday morning facilitating for my new NPQH cohort. The NPQH (National Professional Qualification for Headship) is a nationally recognised programme designed to develop current and aspiring headteachers, using the latest evidence based leadership practice. This is the fifth cohort I’ve had the privilege of supporting. Being part of this work not only keeps me connected with national leadership thinking and research, but it also enables me to bring fresh ideas, reflective practice, and ongoing professional learning back into our school—benefiting our whole community.

This week I also met with Mrs Gaisford, who shared the refined assessments in our History and Geography curriculums, as well as Mrs Catchpole, who talked me through our Science curriculum and the next steps she is taking to monitor the impact of recent changes. What I love most about these types of meetings is seeing just how genuinely passionate our staff are about the subjects they lead. Their depth of knowledge and skill allows them to draw on the very best, evidence informed practice, which ultimately means our children get the very best.

Our football teams put on fantastic performances this week in their fixtures against Lakeside and Leckhampton. Across all matches, the children showed determination, teamwork and real progress in their play.
All three of our football coaches — Mr Herbert, Mr Antonius, and Mr Williams — shared incredibly positive feedback. They were especially proud of how brilliantly the children exemplified our Warden Hill Way on the pitch, demonstrating respect, resilience, sportsmanship and a supportive attitude towards teammates and opponents alike.
These sporting behaviours are just as important as the final score, and they truly deserve to be celebrated. A big thank you to all players, staff and families involved for your enthusiasm and commitment throughout the week.

I will be sharing the 2026–2027 term dates at the Full Governing Body meeting on Monday 26th January and will ensure these are circulated to you all as soon as possible afterwards.

That just leaves me to wish you all a very lovely weekend when it comes.

Warmest regards
Georgina Flooks
