Football Tournament Report – County 7-a-side Finals

For the first time in nearly ten years, our Warden Hill football team secured a place in the County 7-a-side Finals, earning their spot after an unforgettable victory in the Cheltenham Schools’ Albert Dix Tournament. The journey to the finals was nothing short of dramatic, with both the semi-final and final matches decided by tense penalty shootouts. The resilience, composure and teamwork shown by the players that day set the tone for what has been a brilliant season so far.

On Tuesday 2nd December, the team travelled to Gloucester to take on the very best schools from across the county. They started brilliantly, winning their first two matches 1–0 and 2–0, showing fantastic determination, discipline and sporting excellence. A hard-fought draw followed in match three, before a last-minute goal saw us narrowly defeated in the fourth.

Despite their best efforts, and with competition intensifying, the team concluded the tournament with a tough 2–0 loss in the final game.

To put it in to numbers, we finished joint 5th of the 252 schools who competed.

Throughout the entire afternoon, every member of the squad represented the school exceptionally well, demonstrating skill, teamwork and sportsmanship in line with the Warden Hill Way. Their attitude on and off the pitch made us incredibly proud.
We are absolutely delighted with everything they have achieved already this season and there are more matches and competitions to come in the new year.

A huge thank you goes to parents and families. Whether cheering from the sidelines, helping with lifts, or simply ensuring the children turned up feeling excited and ready to enjoy themselves. Your encouragement makes a world of difference.

Well done, team—what a fantastic achievement!
