This week, as part of Cheltenham Literature Festival’s Reading Teachers = Reading Pupils (RT=RP) programme, our Year 3 children took part in a virtual interactive session with author Gary Panton, who wrote The Notwitches.
RTRP is Cheltenham Festivals’ flagship outreach project, designed to inspire both teachers and pupils to read for pleasure. Research shows that children who read for pleasure experience higher levels of well-being, engage more deeply in learning and are more successful in life.
During the workshop, Gary guided our pupils through the creative process of writing their very own stories. They began by creating a character, then imagined where that character lived and explored what they wanted most in the whole world. To make their stories even more exciting, they gave their characters a super power. With these ideas in place, the children wrote imaginative stories that brought their creations to life.
Our pupils loved the opportunity to write while being supported by a real author.
