CANDIDATES’ STATEMENTS

Richard Da Gama

A strategy and operating model specialist who supports clients to overcome complex problems and optimise their performance. As a former Major in the Grenadier Guards, we have recently joined the Cheltenham Community and I am looking for a way to contribute to the community. I would be delighted to support the governors and teacher continue their terrific work supporting Warden Hill.

I have comprehensive leadership and management skills, excellent presentation, communications and negotiation expertise. Extensive experience leading agile and conventional projects that enhance organisational performance. A well-practiced facilitator and trainer, risk aware, with strong ethical and moral values.

My Qualifications: MSc from Henley Business School in Strategic studies and Leadership, Chartered Management Consultant and a Chartered Manager, Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt, APMP and Agile Project Manager.

Yuyan Lin

As a teacher of Mathematics and Physics in secondary schools since 2018, I have first hand experience of working in a school environment. Currently my children are in year 3 and year 4, I have enjoyed seeing them both flourishing with the opportunities Warden Hill has offered. I am an organised person with excellent time management skills. In addition, I am a team player and always willing to give up my time for children’s development and well-being. I love singing mathematics songs and always believe learning should be a happy experience in a safe environment. To support the work of the school eco-warriors, I have been cycling to work when possible.

If I am elected, I would like to offer new ideas to help shape a better future of our children at Warden Hill.

Iain Oliver

I would like to be included on the ballot paper as I am passionate about the Warden Hill Community, have current business experience and have a good knowledge of schools, having worked as a teacher for 14 years.

As part of my work as a Project Manager and Business Consultant, I have led social value projects at the Brizen Community Centre including organising funding and volunteers for the Brizen summer schools camp, including football coaching and cyber technology lessons. These sessions were aimed at children from socially deprived backgrounds and those who have special education needs. On the last Sunday of the month, I take my two daughters to the multi-usage gaming area (Warden Hill Park and playground) to do litter collecting. I believe we all, including children, have a vital role to play in our local community, and I know Warden Hill School also supports these values.

Between 2008-2020 I worked as a Secondary School History Teacher becoming Head of Department. I still work one day a week in a hospital school which serves an Eating Disorder Unit. Within this role I specialise in safeguarding, special educational needs and eating disorder. My experience means I have a good knowledge of school policy, management, priorities and of course how to teach young people.

My work as a Project Manager has provided me with an understanding of how to engage stakeholders as well as how to put together plans to deliver change and events. I have worked in finance, risk and have project managed policy development. As I work for a multi-national consultancy firm, I would be able to reach back to ask for help with bids and other business processes.
Through hard work and a belief in people and community, I would like to bring my skills, knowledge, and experience to help the staff and students at Warden Hill School.

Christopher Surma

Our children get one chance at a successful and enriching primary school experience. I want to ensure that every opportunity is afforded to children, giving them the best possible start. By supporting our students, teachers, parents and management I hope to deliver the highest outcomes for our school and community.

PARTNERSHIP GOVERNOR VACANCY

As well as needing two parent governors, there is also a vacancy on our Governing Board for a partnership governor (not a Warden Hill parent).

Parents of registered pupils are invited to nominate prospective candidates. The governors are looking for particular skills, ideally linked to an educational background / interest, to become involved in the Curriculum and Standards Committee.

If you know someone in our community who might be interested, please could you send nominations to chair@wardenhill.gloucs.sch.uk
