Headteacher’s Update

It’s been another wonderfully busy week in school, and I’m delighted to share just how much has been happening across our community. Our newly improved lunchtimes continue to be a big hit, with our Year 1 and Year 2 pupils, especially enjoying their Forest School adventures — it’s been a joy to see them so engaged and enthusiastic.

Before diving into the week’s celebrations, just a couple of important reminders regarding site safety. If you need to drive onto our site and use the car park, please ensure you follow the one way system. We have had a few instances of cars exiting the wrong way, which creates unnecessary risk for vehicles entering. Adhering to the one way system helps keep everyone safe.

We began Monday morning with our usual whole school assembly which was full of celebration. We recognised our Gloucestershire Young Photographer winners from across the school, all of whom had been invited to Wednesday’s presentation event at The Bacon Theatre. Their creativity and talent shone through, and we are incredibly proud of them.

We also shared the results of last term’s house events. Miss Rand announced Coln as our 2026 House Netball Champions, while Mr Bailey crowned Windrush as the winners of the House Orienteering competition. A huge well done to all pupils who took part with such determination and team spirit.

Our celebration of sporting success continued as we applauded a number of our Year 4 and Year 6 pupils who play for Leckhampton Rovers and were recognised with sportsmanship awards in this year’s Cheltenham Youth Football League. It’s wonderful to see their commitment and character being celebrated beyond school.

Celebration Assembly

Pupil achievements outside of school have reached new heights recently. Delilah in Year 6 travelled to Freiberg, Germany to compete in the skate championships, placing an incredible 8th. The photos of her in action are truly inspiring — and her GB team kit is fantastic. Meanwhile, Harper in Year 3 competed against three other gymnastics schools at the Gloucester Open, securing 1st place in her category and also winning the trophy for the highest score in the entire competition. What an extraordinary achievement.

Pupils’ Success

We also elected our new House Captains, Vice Captains and Sports Captains for the term ahead. Alongside this, we celebrated individual successes from Year 6 pupils Farah and Millie (and Mr Antonious), who have raised thousands of pounds for Alzheimer’s and Bristol Children’s Hospital respectively. Their compassion and drive to make a difference are truly commendable.

Back in school, I had the pleasure of spending time in Science lessons on Thursday. It was wonderful to be in classrooms with our children and to see their learning experiences first-hand. Science teaching across the school is strong, consistent and rich in vocabulary. Children were highly engaged and spoke confidently about their learning. I also happened across Year 2 in the Practical Room making their Moroccan salads — their recipe designs, their mixing of ingredients, and the incredible smells were just fabulous. DT remains such an important subject, nurturing core evaluative and reflective skills.

Reading all of this together, it’s clear that we are surrounded by a wonderfully talented, hardworking and kind hearted school community. Thank you, as always, for your continued support — it makes all the difference.

That just leaves me to say, have a wonderful weekend. I’m off to sunny Surrey to visit my sister and her family.

Warmest regards
