Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a wonderfully uplifting week in school, filled with moments that remind me just how special our community is.
On Monday, I had the pleasure of welcoming Emma Wale, from Springbank Academy (part of the GLA), for a visit. We spent time discussing how our House system works and the way it acts as the lifeblood of our school. It is always a joy to collaborate with fellow heads and Emma was particularly impressed by the range of events and responsibilities our Year 6 pupils take on to develop their leadership skills. She also commented on how fantastic our children were—and shared in an email afterwards that one child told her we are “the best school ever.”
In the spirit of celebration, I also received the most heart‑warming email from David Brewin, the team lead for Bikeability. With his permission, I am sharing his message with you in full, as it speaks volumes about the collective effort—parents, staff, and pupils—to shape our children into the confident, well‑rounded young citizens we want them to become. The Year 5 team and I were incredibly proud to receive such meaningful feedback from an external visitor.
Dear Mrs Flooks,
I just wanted to send some feedback following out week at Warden Hill delivering Bikeability to your children.
It was a week of difficulty and delight, the best way to sum it up. The difficulty, unusual for the time of year was the weather and at times we had to cut sessions shorter to look after the children’s wellbeing.
The delight came from the children. The magic of Warden Hill was so apparent and was evident through the year 5’s behaviour.
For us instructing year 5 children through Bikeability can have its challenges, but not with your children. Their maturity puts them up there with late year 6’s and although some had different cycling abilities, they all without question tried and tried and gave it their all. Because of that, their progress through the course was absolutely fantastic.
The children were an absolute delight to instruct, polite, respectful, happy, eager and willing to learn, happy to learn. They were also really respectful to each other and of course as a representatives of their school, outstanding. They should be wholly congratulated, also the teachers, TA’s, all staff, parents and Murphy as you have all played a part in how and who they are.
I don’t say the words lightly; they are very considered but totally appropriate to describe our week with them.
Thank you for a brilliant week and please pass on out thanks to everyone, especially the children.
We look forward to seeing you again in 2027.
Kind Regards
David
We have also received some lovely feedback from one of our swimming instructors, who has been working closely with our Year 5 pupils over the past few weeks. She has repeatedly commented on how supportive and encouraging they are of one another—celebrating each other’s progress, cheering each other on, and showing real kindness in the pool. These are the qualities that matter just as much as the strokes they learn and it has been wonderful to hear how consistently our children demonstrate them.
Our Year 2 pupils visited Nature in Art on Thursday and I happened to be in reception when they returned. Their excitement was infectious. From being allowed to touch some of the sculptures with the resident artist’s permission to the sheer thrill of travelling on a double‑decker bus, their day sounded nothing short of magical.
Year 2: Nature in Art Trip
Year 1 also shone this week with a brilliant assembly all about Captain Scott and his race to the Antarctic against Roald Amundsen. The children showcased their science learning through song, movement, and storytelling. Although I was unable to attend, staff who were there spoke so highly of their confidence and enthusiasm.
Last Saturday’s PTA Motor Show was simply perfect. We had an incredible range of cars and motorbikes on display, alongside stalls, bouncy castles, go‑karts, food, and drink—what more could anyone ask for. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped create such a vibrant community event. My heartfelt thanks go to our PTA team for their tireless work, and a special mention to Tom Wilkes, whose passion once again brought the motor show element to life. We first ran this event in 2018 and 2019 during my early years of headship, and it was wonderful to see it return with such energy. Personal highlights for me included seeing the iconic DeLorean from Back to the Future and getting to sit in what I like to imagine will be my next car!
Finally, today we welcomed a group of children from The Ridge Academy to use our Forest School area. It was lovely to host them and their staff, and I know they enjoyed exploring a new environment.
That just leaves me to wish you all a wonderful weekend. Please also take a moment to read the additional message regarding next week’s warm weather.
Warmest regards
Georgina Flooks
